For this project, we were asked to choose 2 different pieces of content that we are interested in and present them together as a remix or mashup in a publication. Presenting things in new contexts often injects new life, new perspectives, new understandings into the content.
I chose to remix quotes from Tao Te Ching (written by students of Laozi, introducing Daoism that advocates humility and religious piety) and the fashion brand Comme des Garçons. I want to look at Rei Kawakubo's designs from Daoism's perspective by applying Laozi's philosophy and quotes from Tao Te Ching to fashion design pieces, and also to see how fashion relates to ancient religious piety.

Like other forms of art and design, fashion design is also about storytelling. After seeing Kawakubo's exhibition at The MET Museum, I became more interested in fashion design. Kawakubo's design concept not only stands apart from the genealogy of clothing but also resist definition and confound interpretation. They can be read as Zen riddles devised to baffle, bemuse, and bewilder.

Therefore, I remixed the twos into two forms: a print-on-canvas look book and an installation of handcrafted sheets binding with bamboo sticks that refers to a bamboo slip that ancient Chinese used for writing.
